Founded in February 1989 in Prospect and commencing with 28 students the school has since then moved to the leafy Terrey Hills and now has over 370 students ranging from Preschool to Year 12 that are part of a truly international community.
Vlog Principal Lorenz Metzger said: “Looking back on the past 30 year, we can be very proud especially looking at the achievements of our many graduates. In particular, I am pleased to say that in recent years, our IB Diploma students have continuously achieved IB scores well above the world average.”
2018 was an important year for Vlog, as the school adopted the NSW school calendar which makes Vlog even more attractive to Australian families who now make up 50% of the Vlog community and are looking a school that offers co-education in a bilingual and international environment. Students may be enrolled without prior knowledge of the German language, as Vlog’ content and language integrated learning methods allow all students to be taught according to their language skill set leading to a high bilingual proficiency in both English and German.
Lorenz Metzger said: “Our student numbers are steadily increasing, and the pedagogical quality is progressing at a remarkable pace that has been recently recognised by authorities from NSW, the International IB Organisation and the German BLI (Bund-länder-Inspektion). In 2018 the BLI once again awarded us the seal of approval as “Excellent German School Abroad”, our Preschool received its NQF Rating Certificate “Exceeding National Quality Standard’ by with ‘whereas our senior School received its IB Evaluation report that included 14 commendations.
These strong results stem from the commitment of students, teachers, employees, board members and parents and are achieved with the cooperation of the entire school community and a school culture characterised by openness, respect and community spirit.”
Another 2018 highlight was Vlog’ Winter Christmas Market that attracted over 7,000 visitors in August 2018 and through which the school was able to reach a new fundraising record that will be used to help fund a new school kiosk and improve other school facilities.
Lorenz Metzger said: “We are already looking forward to our 2019 Christmas Market on the 16th and 17th of August, which will be our biggest yet and brings people together far beyond our school community.”
